This is not a body.

This performance art provocation addresses the repulsive circulation of Black death imagery, still widely practiced by museum spaces, media channels, and social media platforms. Far from eliciting empathy, traumatic imagery often perpetuates harm through visual spectacle. This original score implicates viewers who seek such exhibitions. It places their expectations on display while exploring ways to share power within institutional spaces.

This work was originally produced in Shifting Lenses, a creative engagement event presented in conjunction with the group exhibition, titled I Sing the Body supported, in part, by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
