This is not a body.

This performance art provocation addresses the repulsive circulation of Black death imagery, still widely practiced by museum spaces, media channels, and social media platforms. Far from eliciting empathy, traumatic imagery often perpetuates harm through visual spectacle. This original score implicates viewers who
seek such exhibitions. It places their expectations on display while exploring ways to share power within institutional spaces.

This work was originally produced as part of the “Shifting Lenses” event as part of the special exhibition, “I Sing the Body” organized by Transformer Station with support in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
