Shifting Lenses navigates divergent perspectives of physicality and perception through experimental performance. This is not a bodydeveloped by Megan Young with performer Gregory King is a captivating blend of movement, spoken word, and evocative instructions. The piece delves into the tense disconnect between Blackness lived and Blackness viewed. What may initially seem like a solo performance becomes a powerful collective experience, as bodies and attentions slip between expectation, bias, and unknowing. Strategies for Survival is an assemblage developed by Megan Young in collaboration with performers Rebecca Burcher, Akane Little, and Emily Thompson. True to its name, this work offers a compelling sampling of rituals—both chosen and coerced—for those carving a life in hostile spaces. The evening-length event in two parts is a testament to the resilience and creativity fostered through devising techniques.
